So recently I received this an email from a co-worker having problems with a windows 8 update.
Man! I don’t think I like windows 8!!??
So, our computer was doing a windows update, when our little 16 month old decided to unplug the laptop…not knowing it was unplugged it shortly there after died.
When we plugged it in and turned it on the update continued….for hours!!! It would never finish. After hours, I shut down the computer and when I turned it back on it configured the update and was fine. It said the installation was successful. Wanting to check if it really worked, I went to the windows update window and we had 1 additional update. I installed it…and it did the same thing. It went to the blue screen, and “installed’ for hours. It would never switched over to configure…unless I shut the computer off and when I turned it back on it configured and was fine.
My worry is that during that original update when the laptop died the necessary components didn’t get downloaded and we are always going to struggle when Windows does an update… I’m afraid it is always going to “Install” and never finish. Is there anyway to get back to before the update happened? And then try and update again? Not sure the best plan here….Any ideas?
Not sure I like Windows 8!!!
Thanks,Erin
So first thing that came to my mind was a update was corrupt and we needed to delete all her downloaded updates.
Here is what I had her do to fix the problem.
- Navigate to C:WINDOWS\
SoftwareDistribution\Download - Delete EVERYTHING in the download foler.
- Restart the computer
- Run the updates again.
Hope this helps some of you also! Let me know below!
This worked for me! Thanks man! 🙂
